Joan was a respected and loved physician who had a loving husband and a rewarding and happy life. As a physician, Joan made a difference in the lives of the many patients and their families she treated over her lifetime. She was diagnosed with Stage IIIC ovarian cancer in 2012 and underwent de-bulking surgery and chemotherapy. She was a two-time ovarian cancer survivor.
Joan survived and continued to enjoy life nearly 18 months longer than she or her doctors expected. The difference was her husband, Tom, serving as her caregiver; fighting with her every step of the journey in getting her the care and procedures she desperately needed.
Tom has generously established the Joan L. Kidd, MD Memorial Fund with the FCS Foundation. The Fund was first announced at the Foundation’s annual Party Under the Stars 2020 fundraising event in Sarasota, which was also the launch event of the Joan L. Kidd, MD Fight for Life Concert Series. The event raised over $357,000 to benefit cancer patients.
Proceeds from the sale of Tom’s memoir, “All the Way,” will be donated to the Foundation to seed the Joan L. Kidd, MD Memorial Fund on an ongoing basis. Tom also issued a challenge by committing to match the first $10,000 of book sales to benefit the Foundation. The book is available in eBook format and can be downloaded to all devices for convenience immediately upon purchase.
